As the year starts, we want to take time to thank our many volunteers who have given us their precious time - from serving as members of the Club's leadership, Prize Book committee, to managing the members' WhatsApp group, leading health and wellness activities, and offering to help with auditing our financial statements and membership management. Thank you for your generosity with your time and heart - the club would not be where it is without you and we look forward to thanking you in person at the volunteer's dinner.

As we continue into 2024, we want to engage more of you by hosting more events that have the potential to expand your horizons. We want to understand what type of community you want so that we can make sure that we are working towards that direction.
|
There are two events that are coming up for which we would like to mobilise the membership's engagement. The first is a call out for more volunteers to help with organizing the award ceremony for the Prize Book. The Prize Book is a signature event for many Harvard Clubs all around the world and the Club of Singapore's criteria for the awards have made it especially meaningful for the Singapore community. We need sponsorships for venue, F&B and importantly, your engagement with the students to inspire them. If you have any suggestions, please contact Paul Chua.

The second is to announce that our Annual General Meeting will be held in person right before the Annual Dinner, the last week of March. We hope that synchronising the AGM with the Annual Dinner will improve member participation at the AGM. Please remember to save the date!

Calling for Volunteers - Harvard Prize Book
|
|
Calling all HCS members!! Are you passionate about education and nurturing a kinder society? Are you looking for an opportunity to contribute to your HCS and your alma mater, Harvard University?
|
We are delighted to share about the Harvard Prize Book (Singapore) that seeks to recognize high school and high school-equivalent students in Singapore for their service leadership and acts of kindness and care beyond the call of duty.
|
In 2024, the HPB committee will be organising a 2-hour HPB presentation ceremony in June to recognise all our prize recipients. The HPB Committee warmly welcomes you to join us in organising this event and to be a part of this meaningful initiative.
|
If you are not able to join this event, but would still like to contribute, we welcome any suggestions and sponsorships for venue, food and beverages.

Join the HCS Nomination Committee (NomComm)
|
|
We are now in the election season.
|
This year, we have four positions open for elections. These positions are Vice President, Treasurer and two non-executive committee members for the 9 member board of HUAAS. As the chair of the Nomination Committee (NomComm), I am looking for two (2) volunteers to join the committee and assist in the election process.
|

The requirements to join the NomComm are below:
|
|
1. You are a paid member of the association.
|
|
2. You do not intend to run for the office in the 2024 elections.
|
Once selected, you will be in the NomComm for one year, until the next election. If you're interested in serving on the Nom Comm, please sign up via this link (deadline 15 Feb 2024)

The HCS Annual General Meeting will be followed by its Annual Dinner this year. Please save the date for a night of revelry with your fellow Harvard alumni, past and-to-be-announced HCS Fellow Awardees and a Guest of Honour over delicious dinner and drinks!

If your HCS membership has lapsed, please remember to renew here before 15 March 2024 so that you can vote for the members of the HCS Committee and attend the AGM cum Annual Dinner.

March 2024 (date to be confirmed) - The 5Cs: out of touch, outdated, or out of reach?
|
As we start the new year, we will hold a panel discussion about the 5Cs and what it means in our current context. Is the concept still relevant, or simply out of reach for most Singaporeans?
|
In this panel we aspire to bring in speakers across generations and occupations to figure out whether achieve the 5Cs is still resonant, and explore different narratives of success as well as the hopes and anxieties of everyday singaporeans on their future in our contemporary discussion today.
|
